Year in review

2018

The Royal New Zealand Plunket Trust is New Zealand’s largest provider of support services for the development, health and wellbeing of tamariki under 5.

Plunket is committed to giving every child the best possible start and we are focused on making the difference of a lifetime in the first 1000 days of a child’s life.

We are funded by the Ministry of Health to provide the Well Child Tamariki Ora service, and we also offer a range of parenting support groups and education programmes free to families thanks to the generous support from individuals and organisations.

Our Year

This year has been one of significant change for Plunket following the 2016 membership decision to consolidate.

Plunket now has a single national view of its families, staff and volunteers.

We are investing in new ways to support children and families so we can deliver the right services to meet their changing needs, no matter where they live.

Healthy Tamariki

Making a difference everyday through Well Child Tamariki Ora

Last year, Plunket’s nurses saw over 50,000 newborn babies, made over 2,100 contacts with families every day and PlunketLine answered more than 300 calls each day from concerned parents.

The role of a Plunket Nurse has changed so much over the past 110 years and our nurses are spending more time supporting the health and wellbeing of tamariki and whānau.

“It’s an incredibly special role and I feel privileged to be welcomed into people’s homes,” says Angie Blundell, Plunket Nurse.

Connected Communities

Whānau-led design puts families first

Involving whānau was at the heart of developing trusting relationships and creating a warm and welcoming space at Plunket’s Manurewa Family Centre.

Plunket teamed up with The Southern Initiative and local families to create a vibrant and engaging place where people can relax and meet other parents.
